Introduction

While you are doing your Bible reading, you are constantly finishing the reading of verses, chapters, books, and testaments of the Holy Bible.

In this article, we will demonstrate how you can make your reading progress entries in the Zoe Psomí Bible Reader app.

We will divide the subject into two main parts.

First, we will present a practical tutorial teaching you how to inform which parts of the Bible you have finished reading.

Then, we will present relevant theoretical concepts for those who wish to learn more about the reading progress entry system of our Bible Reading Control app.

Prerequisites

If you do not yet have the Bible Reader app installed on your mobile device, use one of the following buttons to download it now and start tracking your Bible reading today.

Bible Reading Progress Entry Tutorial

In the Bible Reader app, a reading progress entry is the action by which you inform that you have completed reading a specific part of your Bible, which can be:

To enable you to make reading progress entries, the Bible Reader app provides the following control, present on the new Bible reading registration screen and on the selected active Bible reading control screen:

Selected Testament Book Listing Screen

To start a reading progress entry, select the desired testament. At this stage, you have two selection options:

  • Old Testament
  • New Testament

In this example, I selected the New Testament, as shown below. The same screen will appear if you select the Old Testament. What changes are only the books presented, according to the selected testament.

If you want to make reading progress entries at the level of the books of the selected testament, press the three-dot button () in the upper right corner of this screen. The following options will be presented:

  • Finish testament reading: used to finish reading the selected testament.
  • Finish books reading…: used to finish reading multiple books of the selected testament.
  • Restart testament reading: used to restart reading the selected testament. This will undo the reading of any verses, chapters, or books of the selected testament that you have already started or finished.
  • Restart books reading: used to restart reading multiple books of the selected testament.

Selected Book Chapter Listing Screen

If you want to make more specific reading progress entries at the chapter level, select the desired book in the selected testament books list. For example, we selected here the book of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, for which Its 28 chapters are listed.

Similarly to the selected testament books listing screen, the selected book chapters listing screen also has a set of options that are presented when you press the three vertical dots button () found in the upper right corner of the screen. These options are:

  • Finish book reading: finishes reading the selected book.
  • Finish chapters reading…: finishes reading multiple chapters of the selected book.
  • Restart book reading: restarts reading the selected book.
  • Restart chapters reading…: restarts reading multiple chapters of the selected book.

Selected Chapter Progress Entry Screen

Finally, if you want to have even greater control over the level of detail of your reading progress entries, you can inform which verses you have already read by selecting one of the chapters listed on the selected book screen.

Below is an example of a verse reading progress entry for chapter 2 of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew:

Finishing the Bible Reading Progress Entry

After informing the parts of the Bible you have already read, press the left-pointing arrow () at the top left of each reading progress entry screen until you return to the screen you were previously on.

Why Keep Track of Bible Reading Progress?

Reading progress entries are fundamental and necessary:

  • so that the Bible Reader app can understand that you have progressed in your Bible reading.
  • to update the current progress of your reading, making the parts you have finished reading read or completed instead of pending reading.
  • so that you reach your minimum daily reading target goal.
  • so that you do not delay your Bible reading over time.
  • so that you do not get stuck (delayed) in time without ever progressing in your Bible reading.
  • so that, eventually, you actually finish your Bible reading!
  • to recover delays in your reading if you have been unable to read the Bible for a few days. This will prevent you from reaching the expected completion day of the reading without having finished reading your Bible!
  • to advance your reading if you want and can read more of the Bible than the minimum indicated for each day. This will lead you to complete your Bible reading before the scheduled date!
  • to serve as a kind of digital Bible bookmark that makes it very easy for you to know where you need to continue your Bible reading.
  • etc.

Now that we know several of the main reasons why we should make progress entries during our Bible readings, let’s see when would be the best time to make these reading progress entries.

When to Make Bible Reading Progress Entries?

In order for the progress of your Bible reading to be always up to date in the Bible Reader app, we recommend that you make reading progress entries whenever you complete the reading of relevant parts of the Bible during your reading. But what would these relevant parts be?

Verse Progress Entries

As we have seen, the Bible Reader app allows you to indicate when you have finished reading one or more verses in your Bible reading.

Of course, we don’t expect you to record every single verse you read. That would be incredibly time-consuming and counterproductive.

Reading progress entries are relevant when they lead us to greater productivity in our Bible reading, but detrimental if they waste the precious and scarce time we have to carry out our reading.

In contrast, when you’re about to finish a chapter, like with just five verses to go, an entry upon completion is valuable. It highlights a significant milestone in your reading.

Chapter Progress Entries

The chapter reading progress entry is used to indicate that you have finished reading one or more chapters of your Bible.

Most of the time, during your Bible reading, you will be making a chapter progress entry each time you finish reading a chapter of the Bible.

Unfortunately, however, in real life, unexpected events often arise that prevent us from completing the reading of an entire chapter of the Bible before we need to interrupt our reading to do something else.

In these cases, it becomes necessary to make partial reading entries, in which we can inform up to which verse we have completed reading the chapter we are reading.

Book Progress Entries

Book progress entries are used to indicate that you have completed reading one or more books of your Bible.

While you are doing your Bible reading, there may be up to 66 times in which you will finish reading a complete book of the Bible.

Each time this happens, the most productive thing to do is to make a reading progress entry informing, in a single action, the book you have finished reading, instead of making a reading progress entry for each of the chapters of the read book.

Tip: book reading progress entries can also be quite useful when you want to create a Bible reading informing that you have already read one or more books of the Bible, that is, in situations in which you are not starting your Bible reading from scratch.

Testament Progress Entries

You can make a testament reading progress entry when you want to inform that you have finished reading the Old Testament or the New Testament.

We advise you to be very careful when making testament reading progress entries, as only two of these entries are needed to complete your entire Bible reading!

The testament reading progress entry can also be useful if you want to create a partial Bible reading of only one of the testaments, instead of reading the two complete testaments, as usual.

For example, if you want to read only the Old Testament, just make, during the registration of your new Bible reading, a reading progress entry informing that you have already read the New Testament. Similarly, you would make, in the registration of a new Bible reading, a progress entry informing that you have already read the Old Testament if you want to read only the New Testament in this new Bible reading you are creating.

Conclusion

Finally, there are many possible combinations of verse, chapter, book, and testament reading progress entries. It would take a long time to give exhaustive examples of when to use each of these different levels of reading progress entries.

We believe that the examples above are sufficient to give you a clear idea of why and when to use each of the types of progress entries available in the Bible Reader app.
