Creating Bible Readings

Open Bible

Introduction

Before you can control your Bible readings, you must first, of course, create these readings.

Creating a new Bible reading is, therefore, the first step you should take when you begin your journey of reading the Bible in full (or in part).

This article describes in detail how you should proceed to take this important first step of creating your Bible readings with the help of Zoe Psomí’s Bible Reader mobile app.

Download The Bible Reader App

If you do not yet have the Bible Reader app installed on your mobile device, use one of the following buttons to download it now:

Starting a New Bible Reading Registration

Right after opening the Bible Reader application, you will be presented with the Bible readings listing screen.

Empty Bible Readings Listing Screen

You will see a button in the lower left corner of this screen with a icon, the purpose of which is to “add” a new Bible reading. Press this button to begin the process of creating your new reading.

New Bible Reading Registration Screen

You will then be presented with the new Bible reading registration screen.

Follow the steps indicated on this screen, described below, to continue registering your new Bible reading.

1. Reading Scope

The first step you should take while creating a new Bible reading is specifying which books of the Bible you want to include in your reading.

Refer to our article “Bible Reading Scope” to learn more about Bible reading scopes and how you can set up and modify the scope of your Bible readings.

2. Reading Start Date

In the second step, you must inform the date on which you started or will be starting your new Bible reading.

New Reading Register Screen - Step 2

If you are starting your Bible reading today, the app will already have the current date selected for your convenience.

There are also the following predefined reading start date options, which you can access by pressing the “Today” label:

Reading Start Date Predefined Options

  • Today: this is the default option, which sets the current date as the start date for your Bible reading. Select this option if you are starting your new Bible reading today.
  • At the beginning of the year: shortcut to set the reading start date as the first day of the year, i.e. January 1st. Assuming the current year is 2025, this option would set the reading start date as 01/01/2025.
  • At the beginning of the semester: this option is similar to the previous one, but in this case the start date of the Bible reading will be set to January 1st or July 1st, depending on whether the current year is still in the first semester (January 1st to June 30th) or in the second semester (July 1st to December 31st), respectively. For example, if today is May 10th, 2025, this option would set January 1st, 2025 as the start date for the Bible reading. However, if the current date is September 10th, 2025, then we are already in the second semester of the year, and therefore the start date of the reading would be set to August 1st, 2025.
  • On a specific date: allows you to manually choose the start date for your reading, using a calendar control.

There may be situations in which you will have already started your Bible reading some time ago, and have only now been able to create this reading in the Bible Reader app. If this is your case, you can change the value of the “Start Date” field by clicking on the currently selected date, which is shown in yellow, and then choose the actual day on which you started your Bible reading.

Tip: If you don’t remember the exact date you started your reading, don’t worry. You can choose the current date (today) or the date that you think is closest to the start of your reading. This will have no impact on the tracking of your Bible reading, other than determining the total length of your Bible reading, which is calculated based on the start date you entered.

After choosing the start date for your Bible reading, press the “Next” button to proceed to the next step of your new Bible reading registration form.

3. Completion Goal

Similarly to the start date of your reading, you will now enter the target date for completing your Bible reading.

New Reading Register Screen - Step 3

The completion goal is the deadline by which you intend to finish your Bible reading.

For example, if you want to read your Bible within a year, your completion goal date should be one year after your start date. Therefore, someone who starts their Bible reading on January 1, 2025 (the first day of the year) and wants to finish reading their Bible within a year should select December 31, 2025 (the last day of the year) as their completion goal date for this reading.

Of course, these are just random values that we are using as an example. However, you can set any date you want as the completion goal date for your Bible readings.

To simplify your experience, the Bible Reader app gives you a predefined list of completion goal options that are relative to the start date you set for the Bible reading you are creating. Tap the “On a specific date” label to view other options besides this default completion goal date:

Completion Goal Date Options

These options work as follows:

  • On a specific date: allows you to manually enter the date you want, using a calendar control.
  • Three months: Selects a target completion date that is three months in the future from the current date. For example, assuming today is February 14, 2023, the target completion date would be set to three months from now (90 days), falling on May 15, 2023.
  • Six months: similar to the previous option, but in this case the target completion date is set to be six months in the future in relation to the current date. Again considering the current date as being 02/14/2023, the target completion date in this case would be 08/13/2023.
  • Nine months: similar to the two previous options, but in this case the target completion date is set to be nine months in the future in relation to the current date.
  • End of this year: sets the last day of the current year as the target date for completing your Bible reading. Considering that we are in the year 2023, selecting this option would automatically set the target date for completion as 12/31/2023, regardless of what day of the year you started your reading.
  • One year: sets the target completion date as being one year from the current date. If today is 02/14/2023, the target completion date would be set as 02/14/2024, that is, one year from now.

After choosing a target completion date for your Bible reading, press the “Next” button again to move on to the fourth step of the process of registering your new Bible reading.

4. Weekly Reading Plan

In step 4 of the new Bible reading registration process, you can set up a weekly reading plan for the Bible reading you are creating.

If you need or want to read the Bible only on specific days of the week, use the “Weekly Reading Plan” card control available on this step to choose the days of the week in which you want to read the Bible and the days of the week you will not be reading It.

If, on the other hand, you plan to read the Bible every day of the week, there is no need to take any action in this step. Just keep the default settings presented and move on to the next step of the registration process.

5. Initial Reading Progress

Remember in step 1 of this process, you had the option to indicate whether you started your reading on a date prior to the current date, such as yesterday, last week, or a few months ago?

Since the reading you are creating may already be in progress, in this step you have the opportunity to indicate which parts of the Bible you have already read so far, or whether you will start your reading from scratch.

If you are just starting your reading today or if you want to read your Bible from scratch:

  1. press the “Next” button once more and move on to the next step of the new Bible reading registration process.
  2. skip the next paragraph and go to the “5. Description” section of this article.

However, if you wish to begin your reading with some parts of the Bible already started or finished, read our official article Mastering Bible Reading Tracking: A Zoe Psomí App Guide to understand how you can report the parts of the Bible that you have read so far.

After that, make the desired adjustments to the initial progress of your new Bible reading and the press the “Next” button one more time.

6. Description

The sixth and final step in the process of registering a new Bible reading consists of providing a brief description for your reading.

You can give your Bible reading any description you want.

This text will serve as a reference so that you can more easily identify your different Bible readings.

Save

After following the steps described above, press the “Save” button (located in the upper right corner of the new Bible reading registration screen) to indicate that you are satisfied with the values entered in the form and wish to complete the registration operation for your new Bible reading.

Then confirm the operation by selecting the “Yes” option in the pop-up dialog that appears asking if you are sure you want to create the new Bible reading.

After confirming your registration, wait a few moments while the application processes the creation of the new Bible reading.

If successful, the application will display the dialog below informing you that your registration has been completed.

Done! Your new Bible reading has been successfully created! Press the “View Reading” button to view the Bible reading you just created.
